The proposed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), commonly known as “card check,” represents what would be, if enacted, the most sweeping change in labor law in the last 60 years.

It will dramatically change the union organizing process in ways that could undermine constructive, collaborative employer-employee relationships and disrupt operations at union and non-union manufacturing operations alike.
Card check takes away workers’ right to a secret-ballot union election and, in some cases, their right to be heard at all on the matter of union representation. In many instances, card check will eliminate the traditional education and discussion part of a union-organizing campaign and deny employers an opportunity to address union claims and promises. Card check allows government to impose a binding contract on companies and their workers, and imposes increased fines on employers (but not on unions) for violations of labor law.
Most manufacturers who have looked at EFCA think it’s clearly not in the best interest of their companies and the manufacturing associates they employ.
